It’s in the air, but its signal isn’t picked up. Planes’ signals are picked up by receivers on the ground. Over oceans, deserts, Central Asia and parts of the Caucasus and Africa there are few of them — the plane flies on but disappears from our view for a while.
It hasn’t taken off yet, or it has already landed. A parked plane often has its signal switched off.
The number is written differently. Check the one on your ticket — one digit off is a different flight. Some airlines use a different call sign on the radio (for example: TK 1234 → THY4KZ).
